Geraldine E. King Women’s Center SLC

Volunteering at the women’s center was fun and easy. I arrived for the morning shift at 7:30 am on a Monday and was greeted warmly by Sarah. She was excited to see that I had arrived because she said sometimes she has to work solo. Lucky for us though as soon as we were done introducing ourselves we were joined by five more volunteers. Everybody was super excited to be there during the Christmas season.

We started by handing in our Volunteers of America Utah volunteer waiver. Then she gave us each an apron to wear. We were then all assigned different jobs I was assigned handing out sausage! I got lucky this was a very easy job, and I still got to talk with the women that were there for breakfast.

We started serving at 8 am. All of the women seemed happy to be there and to be getting a warm meal during the cold winter months. It was a lot of fun getting to interact with everyone. Then it was all over and we stopped serving at 9 am and were all cleaned up and out of there by 9:30 am. It was super easy to do and very rewarding I still find myself thinking back to this time and it makes me happy to be making an effort to help give back.
