Habitat for Humanity Restore(East) Omaha

Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity is very simple and straight forward. I signed up two days before for the 10am-2pm shift. My show time was not until 4:30, so I still had plenty of down time. I got into Omaha around 11pm the night before and I got to sleep in. I walked over to the Restore in the morning. It is a 10 minute walk from the Even Hotel straight down 24th street. I left at 9:45 and was there five minutes early.

When I arrived I walked up to the register and said I was there to volunteer. Anna was managing at the time and she helped sign me in. Then she gave me different jobs of organizing and helping with donations. These were easy jobs and it was fun to see some of the old things that had been donated. When I had to go Anna signed me out. Their system even keeps track of your volunteer time for you.

Anna said they were extremely short handed and they were very happy that I had arrived. They need all the help they can get. I was happy that I got out of the hotel for the day and felt like I made use of my time! This is definitely an easy volunteering opportunity—everything you do is inside and everyone is happy to be there. I plan to go back on my next Omaha overnight and I hope some of you do also.
